There’s a question I get asked all the time, usually in a whisper, usually with a nervous laugh: “Am I the kind of person who does boudoir?”

My answer is always the same. Yes. If you’re a woman and you’re curious, you’re the kind of person who does boudoir.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s what one of my recent clients had to say after stepping way outside her comfort zone.

In Her Words

“Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience! From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable, welcomed, and at ease. You made the entire session so much fun, and I honestly left feeling more confident and empowered than I expected.

I absolutely loved my images and was amazed at how beautifully you captured me. It was such a special experience to step outside of my comfort zone, celebrate myself, and see myself in a completely different way. I would definitely encourage other women to do a boudoir session, regardless of their age, body type, or whether they feel confident in front of a camera. You have a way of making me feel beautiful and comfortable throughout the entire process, and the experience is about so much more than just the pictures.

Thank you again for making me feel so beautiful and for giving me an experience I will always remember! I’m so grateful I stepped outside my comfort zone and did this, and I would absolutely do it again!”

Any Age. Any Body. Any Comfort Level.

This is the part of her review I want to shout from the rooftops of Claremore. Boudoir isn’t reserved for a certain age, a certain size, or women who already love having their picture taken. (If you’re someone who hides behind the phone in every group photo, hi, you’re my people.)

I’ve photographed brides, new grandmas, women celebrating big birthdays, and women who just decided it was finally their turn. The one thing they all have in common? They showed up. That’s it. That’s the only requirement.

It Starts the Moment You Walk In

She mentioned feeling comfortable and welcomed from the moment she walked through the door, and I take that really seriously. Walking into a boudoir studio for the first time can feel like a big deal, so my job is to make it feel like hanging out with a friend who happens to own a really nice camera.

From there, I guide you through every pose, hype you up the whole way, and make sure the session feels fun, not stiff. Laughing is encouraged. Snorting is also encouraged. Some of my favorite shots happen right after someone cracks up.

More Than Just the Pictures

Don’t get me wrong, I love the images. I’m a photographer; I’m obsessed with them. But she nailed it when she said the experience is about so much more than just the pictures.

It’s about seeing yourself in a completely different way. It’s about celebrating who you are right now, not who you think you should be someday. And it’s about walking out feeling a little taller than when you walked in.
