If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking “boudoir photos are great… for other people, not for me,” this post is for you. Because that’s exactly where Allison started.

Allison came to me for a boudoir session as a wedding gift from her fiancé, and like many brides who walk through our Claremore studio doors, she was nervous. Not because of the concept, but because of the noise in her head that had been put there by other people.

“I’m Not the Standard”: And Why That’s a Lie

In her own words, Allison told us she’d always felt out of her comfort zone with this kind of thing, partly because of culture, and partly because people she trusted had told her, because of how she looks and her size, that she wasn’t what’s “supposed to” be considered beautiful or sexy.

If you’ve heard some version of that in your own life, I want you to hear this: that standard was never real to begin with.

It took Allison time to get to a place where she knew, not just hoped, that she is beautiful and sexy exactly as she is. Her fiancé helped her find that courage, and gifting her this session was his way of helping her see herself the way he already did.

This is the whole reason boudoir photography exists in the first place. Not to make you into someone else’s idea of beautiful. To show you the version of yourself that’s already there.

What the Actual Shoot Day Looked Like

Here’s how Allison described her experience with us:

The whole experience with Stacy was exceptional. I enjoyed being pampered and pumped up by both Stacy and the glam squad. She helped me with every pose, feeling confident and beautiful throughout the whole shoot. I couldn’t recommend Stacy enough, she’s the best!

This is genuinely my favorite part of the job. By the time hair and makeup wraps and we start shooting, most clients, Allison included, aren’t posing for a stranger anymore. It feels more like getting glammed up with your best friend who just happens to also be really good at making you feel unstoppable in front of a camera.

No stiff, awkward posing you have to figure out on your own. No guessing if you’re “doing it right.” Just guided, supported, genuinely fun, start to finish.

Boudoir Photography Isn’t About Fitting a “Type”

I often get asked whether boudoir sessions are “for” a certain body type, age, or stage of life. The honest answer: no. I’ve photographed brides, moms, women celebrating milestones, and women (like Allison) simply deciding they’re done waiting for permission to feel sexy.

What they all have in common isn’t a body type. It’s the decision to show up for themselves.

Thinking About Booking Your Own Session?

If Allison’s story sounds a little too familiar, if you’ve got that same voice in your head telling you to wait until you look “a certain way” first, I’d love to talk it through with you.
